Project curated by Juan Carlos Rego for M3 / Trobades to Phase V in La Misericordia, Palma. Night of Art 2023
Room 3 - FeminAE
It is the title of a selection of works by important Spanish artists represented by the Maior Gallery for years, and with which it has a strong connection. The installation of these emblematic works by Susana Solano, Victoria Civera and Eulàlia Valldosera, listed in chronological order, represents an extraordinary opportunity to establish and confront a singular dialogue. Through the project that makes up FeminAE, at the proposal of the Maior Gallery, I wanted to recreate a generational dialogue, between the formal, the expressive and the conceptual. These are rich and diverse forms of expression that reveal the creative power of women, and that contain complex sensitivities. On the other hand, a dialogue of materials and visual techniques is also evident, between sculpture, photography and plastic art, in a heterogeneity of formats. Furthermore, since they are artists with exceptional careers, both nationally and internationally, and who continually maintain in their works the spirit of search and experimentation essential for the development of their languages, it is undoubtedly a privilege to have these works. and being able to enjoy their interaction with each other, and with the viewer. One of the aspects that seems fair to me to recognize has been the commitment since the origins of Galería Maior to women artists, and the important work carried out in the dissemination of their works, highlighting their enormous contribution to Spanish and international art.
Susana Solano
Susana Solano (Barcelona, 1946) is undoubtedly one of the great Spanish sculptors and artists, with the greatest projection and international recognition. In her work, she perfectly and masterfully combines the strength of the materials with the creative energy that emanates from her sophisticated proposals. Her exquisitely crafted sculptures of her work are also a reflection of the great sensitivity that transcends her reflective personality. Considered as the worthy heir of an extraordinary contemporary Spanish sculptural tradition, which connects her with the great figures of our sculpture such as: Julio Gonzalez, Jorge Oteiza or Eduardo Chillida, Solano has managed to develop her own language in continuous evolution at an expressive, formal and conceptual. In 1988 she received the National Prize for Plastic Arts.
Victoria Civera
Vitoria Civera (Puerto de Sagunto, 1955), in her work combines different techniques, developing a rich and suggestive art around women. Without a doubt, her work is very marked by the fact that she has developed her career in New York and the creative relationship with her husband, also an artist, Juan Uslé. Photomontage has been, and continues to be present, one of her star techniques. in combination with painting, and sculpture in which she uses all types of materials that refer to the role of women, as well as the expression and identification of the feminine. The museum
National Reina Sofia dedicated a large exhibition to her in 2005, and she is one of the references of our contemporary art at a national and international level.
Eulàlia Valldosera
Eulàlia Valldosera (Villafranca del Penedés, 1963), is a very unique artist, where experimentation plays an essential role in her work. Her multidisciplinary nature and her commitment to the environment and nature, in addition to her social and political consciousness, have woven a trajectory in which installation, video creation, and performance have formed a rich and versatile expressive language. Awarded the National Prize for Plastic Arts in 2002, and with works in important museums and collections around the world, her proposals and creations never cease to surprise and stimulate the viewer, from a constant expressive search that is part of her own personal search. in catharsis with its environment, in that where perception takes us to a level beyond the tangible.
