Edicions Maior: Parte II - Palma

From end 2019 and all through 2020, Galería Maior will present a series of exhibitions showcasing original print works produced at Edicions Maior’s printmaking studio.

For the November exhibition we present ‘Edicions Maior : Parte I’. This display includes a selection of prints by reputed nacional and international artists such as A R Penck, José Manuel Broto, Susana Solano, José Pedro Croft, Amador or Jürgen Partenheimer, among others. This show pays homage to the extraordinary work undertook at Edicions Maior and to everyone that was involved in this project.

Edicions Maior kicked off in 1990 in Pollença. Pollencí artist Amador was the real person behind this wonderful adventure that took Edicions Maior to become one of the most renowned printmaking studios in Spain. Located in a small enclave in the North side of Mallorca, artists found the perfect environment to develop their print work. Edicions Maior no only had an impressive infrastructure but also had very skilled professional printers working there.

Without being aware of it, Edicions Maior enormously contributed to consolidate the use of printing techniques among contemporary national and international artists. Edicions Maior not only welcomed the associated gallery artists but many others with no direct relation with Mallorca, such as the aforementioned A R Penck or Jürgen Partenheimer who felt attracted by the printmaking studio’s reputation. In this context, artists produced works of enormous quality that brought printing (with its various techniques and nuances) to the same level as other mediums such as painting and sculpture.

With these series of exhibitions galería Maior wants to put value in this great adventure that started some 30 ago, and for the audience to be able to enjoy the richness that exists in the world of printing.
