Memòries (processos)
This is indeed a rather singular exhibition that originates from the artist wish to recreate the atmosphere of his studio in the gallery space. With this gesture, Amador (Pollença, 1957), moves away from the traditional exhibition model to propose a more intimate, transversal and daring form of exhibit with a clear tendency towards the eclectic and where pieces from different periods coexist. Memòries (processos) not only brings closer the artist’s private workspace but also helps to demystify the act of creation, something that very often appears to be hermetic and unaccessible to the general public. Amador’s studio is then the guiding principle of this presentation that, among other things, aims to underline the great variety of approaches and techniques that conform his artistic practice. The work of Amador is characterised by a great formal and aesthetic coherence that has allowed him to endure an artistic vocabulary that pays special attention to both technical experimentation and material manipulation. Amador is an experimental and multidisciplinary artist whose work includes sculpture, painting, installation, etching, drawing, photography and video. Behind the apparent quietness of his works, there lies a vibrant artistic practice in continuous development. Amador develops a practice that is intimately linked to his most immediate surroundings —these are, the village of Pollença, the North side of Mallorca and the Mediterranean landscape. In Memòries (processos) we find a great variety of works that coexist in the same space and establish crossed dialogues among themselves. The shelf is perhaps the first element that attracts the visitor’s attention; it contains a considerable number of small scale sculptures that in their heterogeneity point to the experimental nature of Amador’s practice. Here we see, for instance, pieces that belong to series like Erosions provocades (1993), Germinacions (1998 -) or L’home Fabricat (1996 - 2000). In addition to these sculptures there are larger ones, mostly D’Ahir i d’avui (2016 -), that arranged all through the space structure the presentation. In their dramatic reduction of forms, Amador creates a form of archetype that refers to a primordial state —there is a strong psychological element present all thorough Amador’s work that makes these figures, even if incipient and spectral, establish an emotional connection with the subject. Painting is also a fundamental medium in Amador’s practice. In this exhibition we see Silencis (2017), one of his most recent series that in this occasion is displayed as an installation. Silencis mixes greenish colours with cold blues that undoubtedly make reference to the colours of the sea —although nature and the sea are a constant source of inspiration, in this occasion Amador reflects on dramatic situation that is happening in the Mediterranean sea where thousands of people desperately try to reach European territory to scape wars, religious conflicts and the increasing inequality between regions. Retrats (1998- 1999), a very prolific series that has its origin in Amador’s childhood memories, is represented by an elegant piece where the portrait and the frame form a unity. Fusions (1999) introduces a dual element and is characterised by an economy of painterly means that increases a certain feeling of weightlessness. Resin is perhaps the material most associated with Amador’s practice. In this exhibition we see works from his series Emersions (2001-2004) and Ascensions (2000-2001), two magnificent pieces that exemplify Amador’s expressive use of transparencies and how light becomes an integrating element. This exhibition also includes photographic work such as Galactics (2001 - 2002), a series that presents embryonic figures on a monochrome background that remind us of the Mediterranean colours. The print on glass fibre is an innovative technique that takes us again to this experimental approach that runs all though Amador’s work.
With an extensive artistic career, Amador (Pollença, 1957) has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally. Most recent solo exhibitions include: L’Home i L’Espai’ ,Flo Peters Galerie, Hamburg (2018) ‘Desde la otra orilla’, MAD Antequera, Málaga (2017), ‘Silencis’, C&K Galerie, Berlin, Germany (2017), ‘Núvols’, Art Hobler Gallery, Zurich, Switzerland (2016), Amador. CAC Málaga, Málaga (2005), “Vigies”, Fundación Pilar i Joan Miró, Palma (2004). His work is part of international art collections such as Fundación Coca-Cola, Fundación Pilar i Joan Miró, Es Baluard - Museum of Contemporary Art (Palma), Colección Pilar Citoler - Circa XX, Collection Deutsche Telekom, Volksbank Berlin.
