Galería Maior – Pollença

Antonio Mesones (Santander, 1965) currently lives and works in Berlin. His paintings represent poetic shapes, colors and compositions that arise from the abstraction of the process of painting. On the surface of each canvas, emerges a floating static figure, a kind of living creature whose current state is the only thing we learn to observe. The emotional spaces that immediately invade the viewer are not entirely disconnected from the experiences of the artist himself, so each piece is displayed even as a subtle portrait.

The process is evident as brushstrokes that show slow, repetitive and meticulous daily work of overlaying a layer of paint over another and back cover this with a new one. In some cases, the edges of the successive layers form a color contour to the final shape. In others, this figure is composed of a large stain that almost hides all previous work. Sometimes, the set seems to vibrate or protrude from the flat surface because of a studied optical effect. His works are part of major Spanish collections and he has exhibited individually and collectively in Spain, Germany, Norway, Lisbon and the USA.
