Was born in Zaragoza in 1949 and has been one of the prime representatives of painting-painting, and therefore, one of the artists who has most vindicated abstraction in the face of figurative painting as well as conceptual art. The importance granted to emptiness and the creation of atmospheres are two features present in his whole body of work. One of the aims that governs his pieces is that they be seen from a strictly pictorial point of view, eliminating any element that has anything to do with any matter or content. As well as the international recognition he boasts of, in 2005 he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas and in 1997 he obtained the ARCO award by the Asociación de Críticos (Critics Association). In 2003 he was awarded the Premio Goya for engraving.
